MATT PETTIT
Matt Pettit, Head of innovation and product specialist at IMT International.
Matt is responsible for the provision of cryopreservation systems to animal breeding programmes and for the development and implementation of Matcher, an electronic witnessing and quality management system for IVF clinics and donor banks.
After gaining a degree in Biology at the University of Wales in 1990, Matt worked in Research and Development at the cattle breeding company, Genus Plc., specialising in Bovine and Equine sperm processing, cryopreservation, and semen evaluation techniques. After establishing a stallion semen freezing unit at Australasia’s largest standard-bred ranch, ‘Alabar Bloodstock’, Matt took up the post of Manager of Research and Development at the Duke of Westminster’s bovine sperm sexing facility, ‘Cogent’. Cogent were the first company in the world to be issued a licence to sex sperm by flow cytometry and achieved the world’s first commercially sexed offspring in 2001, using techniques now widely adopted by the global dairy and beef industries.
Matt joined IMT International in 2005 and plays an integral role in the continuous development of IMT products in line with customer’s requirements and assists with sales and marketing of products through to implementation of products and training.
Matt’s professional qualifications include: BSc Biology; Quality Manager for ISO9001; Manager for Development of technology for ART (Cryopreservation and Quality Management); Speaker on error prevention, quality and risk management in IVF laboratories from theory to practice; e-Learning; and advisor on the GaMP (Good automated manufacturing practice) framework for system validation.

Alison started her career as an embryologist in Liverpool and held a senior embryology position with CARE Fertility at its inception in 1997. Alison has worked as a consultant at several clinics across the world including in Egypt and Italy and has played a key role in establishing and improving IVF laboratories. As Director of Embryology for CARE Fertility, Alison heads up the eight embryology teams with 60 embryologists, across the CARE Fertility Group in the UK and Ireland.
Alison's current role involves driving standards, best practice and leading research and development across the sites, where embryology practice is aligned and continuous improvement a priority. Alison is an experienced clinical embryologist, a member of Alpha executive board, a Diplomate of the Royal College of Pathologists and is a Director of The CARE Fertility Group. Alison was responsible for the first clinical application of time-lapse microscopy in the UK and has published her work in this exciting area of assisted reproduction. Alison Campbell and Prof. Simon Fishel recently edited the first monograph published on time lapse embryology - Atlas of time lapse embryology. Alison has contributed to many key texts about embryology, including co-authoring the chapter on embryology in the prestigious ‘Gray's Anatomy: The Anatomical Basis of Clinical Practice’.
Alison has a passion for training and development of embryologists and has recently established a state of the art training facility and laboratory, based at CARE Manchester.
Dr RITA VASSENA
Dr. Rita Vassena is the Scientific Director of the Eugin Group. In this position, she directs the group's international research, and directly supervises the basic research laboratory in Barcelona. She has more than 20 years of research and management experience in reproduction with more than 100 publications in international journals and book chapters; her main research interests are preimplantation embryo development and human ART policy. Dr. Vassena is Associate Professor of Translational Medicine at the University of Barcelona and Co-Director of the Master's in Human Assisted Reproductive Technology at Pompeu Fabra University.
