Q and A
Synopsis
The 97-minute webinar, moderated by Dr. Dan Nayot and Dr. Sony Sierra with embryologist Jullin Fjeldstad, brought together clinicians and embryologists to discuss recent advances in the understanding and management of endometriosis in reproductive medicine. Through three presentations and a 20-minute Q&A session, the speakers explored how endometriosis affects fertility and how emerging diagnostic tools, surgical techniques, and evidence-based treatment strategies may improve reproductive outcomes.
Isabel Puerta Vega focused on the complex relationship between endometriosis and reproductive potential, particularly the challenge of distinguishing the roles of oocyte quality and uterine factors. Her presentation highlighted how endometriosis can influence ovarian function, oocyte competence, and the uterine environment, while also emphasizing that infertility associated with the disease is multifactorial. She discussed the importance of carefully evaluating both embryological and uterine aspects when planning treatment strategies for patients undergoing assisted reproductive technologies.
Dr. José María Puerta Sanabria examined the evolving landscape of endometriosis diagnosis and management. His talk addressed advances in precision diagnostics, including improved imaging techniques and more refined clinical assessment methods that allow earlier and more accurate identification of the disease. He also reviewed recent surgical innovations aimed at improving patient outcomes, emphasizing minimally invasive approaches and individualized treatment planning to balance symptom relief with preservation of reproductive potential.
Dr. Demian Glujovsky presented evidence from a systematic review and meta-analysis on endometrial receptivity–guided embryo transfer. His talk critically assessed whether tests designed to identify the optimal implantation window improve pregnancy outcomes in assisted reproduction. The analysis highlighted the current evidence base and its limitations, encouraging clinicians to interpret receptivity-guided strategies cautiously and to rely on high-quality data when incorporating new technologies into clinical practice.
Across the session, the speakers collectively addressed the pathophysiology of endometriosis and its implications for fertility, including mechanisms affecting oocyte quality, uterine function, and endometrial receptivity. The discussion also explored emerging clinical strategies aimed at improving reproductive outcomes, combining advances in diagnostics, surgical care, and evidence-based reproductive treatments.
The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session in which participants discussed practical challenges in managing endometriosis in fertility care. Overall, the session provided a comprehensive and forward-looking overview of how modern reproductive medicine is approaching endometriosis, emphasizing multidisciplinary collaboration between clinicians and embryologists to optimize patient care.
