Session 177: Plugged In – The Connected IVF Laboratory

This I3 webinar explored the growing importance of **integration and connectivity within the modern IVF laboratory**, examining how time-lapse monitoring (TLM), electronic witnessing systems (EWS), and artificial intelligence (AI) can work together to create a more efficient, intelligent, and safer laboratory environment.

Hosted by Magdalena Depa-Martynow and Brian LoManto, the session brought together three experts to examine different but complementary aspects of laboratory digitalisation.

Dr. Thomas Ebner explored the role of time-lapse imaging in continuously monitoring embryo development (See It), while Dr. Necati Findikli addressed electronic witnessing and traceability systems in maintaining patient identification and laboratory security (Track It). Laura Carrión Sisternas examined how artificial intelligence can interpret laboratory data and support more informed embryological decision-making (Understand It).

The presentations highlighted the importance of moving beyond individual technologies towards a fully connected IVF laboratory ecosystem, where data, devices, and workflows communicate seamlessly without compromising laboratory efficiency or embryologist oversight.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A exploring the practical challenges, opportunities, and future direction of laboratory integration.
